Western States Fire Protection - Texas (San Antonio)

The current Western States Fire Protection San Antonio, Texas office servicing San Antonio and the surrounding areas was started by Jay Finucane and Brian Popham. At the time, Jay and Brian were field personnel, and were part of the Austin, Texas branch office. Jay Finucane went door-to-door to San Antonio area businesses, handing out business cards, and the area blossomed into a successful, stand-alone branch. Tim Martinez is the current Area Manager, and has been with Western States Fire Protection for 21 years and is very appreciative of the opportunity to continue what Jay started several years back.

The WSFP San Antonio office is comprised of office and field personnel, including sprinkler fitters (commercial and residential), alarm technicians including 1 licensed electrician, and inspectors. A large number of the fire protection management staff have risen through the ranks (as fitters and service technicians). In fact, Tim Martinez started as a sprinkler system fitter as well. This gives the WSFP San Antonio office management the field perspective to all the fire protection work being done. When the Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office first started, Jay Finucane would drive around town looking for dumpsters, figuring (correctly!) that companies were renovating existing buildings - and then going after that fire protection work. Service work was initially (and still is) about 50 percent of the WSFP San Antonio offices' fire protection work. Contract work includes a significant amount of long-term, large accounts. Government work is also an important segment of the Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office portfolio of fire protection system clients.

Saving lives and making a difference are words that the WSFP San Antonio office truly believes in. As Tim Martinez observes, "we have a purpose, and that is to save lives. We feel strongly about this industry." Tim also noted that Western States Fire Protection company leadership strives to be the best at fire protection service and installation, and instill in the staff to work every day to be better than the competition. There is a strong pride among the staff in WSFP and its reputation.

One of the ways that the Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office is serving the public better than the competition is through education. WSFP San Antonio has obtained trailers from their fire protection equipment and parts vendors, and the service teams go out to fire departments, property managers, and others, training on how to do various fire protection systems. The Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office offers no-charge consulting, answering questions, and providing assistance for prospective and existing clients.

To this end, WSFP San Antonio is building a training center, which will be opening in the first quarter of 2012. The training center will include 2 backflows, a 500 g.p.m. fire pump and 8 risers equipped with different types of valves used in the industry. The training center will also be equipped with 4 different fire alarm panels. The reason for the training center is to educate fire departments as to how Western States Fire Protection fire equipment and fire systems operate. Working with fire departments, the WSFP training center facility will show the top 3 items to look for:

  1. Identifying the correct pressures and gauges
  2. Valve locations
  3. Overall condition of the fire protection/sprinkler system

WSFP San Antonio has worked on a number of high-profile projects, including a time sensitive, fire sprinkler retrofit project for University of Texas Health Science Center. The work required detailed and extensive scheduling, custom scaffolding, and a 30-day time frame involving night work to complete the project. The Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office was up to the task, even handling client requested changes and modifications resulting from the Texas State Fire Marshall Inspection. WSFP San Antonio has worked for a wide range of other customers, including shopping malls, automobile plants, energy companies, general contractors, property managers, and government and military facilities, to name a few.

Social media is an important online communications venue for the Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office. WSFP San Antonio staff members, including Tim Martinez, have Facebook and Twitter signatures in their emails - another way to connect with prospective and existing clients. Additionally, the Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office is in the process of creating YouTube fire protection training videos.

WSFP San Antonio is focused on resolving potential and current clients' fire protection and equipment problems, including installing and servicing sprinkler systems and fire suppression systems the correct way. By emphasizing the overall quality of the Western States Fire Protection San Antonio office, this team believes WSFP can meet anyone's fire protection needs.
